Soul and R&B music is having its own underground revival with digital platforms and music-centered communities like ours giving artists the chance to exist in more nurturing and caring environments. These past few years it’s been exciting to see how this music started operating outside the norms of mainstream music.

Today we’re taking a closer look at a brand new single by New York-based singer and songwriter Chapella. Being a part of the Drooble community we got to hear her brand new piece ‘Forward’ three weeks before its actual December 18 release on all digital outlets.

With influences ranging from late legends like Prince and Michael Jackson to Raphael Saadiq, Jill Scott or otherworldly Erykah Badu among others, Chapella has written a delicate, personal and very uplifting piece that is dedicated to all “broken-hearted, depressed and hurt souls”. However, just as the title suggests ‘Forward’ is not a tribute to the gloom and sadness each of us has been trapped in. On the contrary, it’s bearing an emotional and self-motivating message delivered in the precise and detailed arrangement and packaged in neat and pro-sounding production with touching and honest lyrics.
