Long-distance rock and roll is mission possible and TolbertToz is the proof

The Internet is a great tool for connecting people who are sharing the same creative needs and vision. On Drooble we often come across at collaborations between people who often have never even met each other in real life. In the case of TolbertToz, the long-distance collaborations eventually became a real-life connection between two creative individuals – singer Joy Tolbert and guitarist Tim Toz.

The first thing you notice about the duo is how prolific they are. It’s a rate of productivity that is surely enviable by those of us who are way more sporadic in our musical endeavor. The results of this creative discipline are showcased on the collection of tracks we’re discussing here. Even if those 11 tracks are not really unified by a common concept and presented as an album in the strict meaning of this format they still manage to sound incredibly homogeneous, they stick together like glue and are even presented in an order that ensures a nice little journey in the realms of pop-rock but with influences varying from indie to alternative and grunge.

The powerful voice of Joy is absolutely captivating and sometimes brings memories of Netherland’s iconic Anouk. On the instrumental side of things, the music and sound of TolbertToz are super rich. Even though the music is done by just two people in their studio everything sounds explosive, full of energy and emotion. Some tracks are wild (Heartbeat), others have a strong pop feel to them (Let You Go), while others are deeply melancholic (Don’t Take Your Love). It’s a wide range of vibes that the duo has successfully managed to capture and convey. Our advice is, give them a shot, especially if you like your rock music to be as life – always exciting and surprising.
