Brunilda’s La Primera Vez is more lively Argentinian rock for the heart and soul

We’ll openly admit we have a huge soft spot for the music scene in Argentina. Some of the coolest, most uplifting tunes we’ve heard by Drooble users hail from Buenos Aires and other hot spots in the country where many newborn boys are named Lionel. La Primera Vez, a record by B.A. band Brunilda, did not disappoint our expectations! Brunilda labels itself a post-punk band, but we’d rather describe their music as light-hearted rock played with a punk-ish attitude.

The songs feature traditional rock instruments in addition to a heavy piano presence and echoing, airy vocals. This makes for a warm, organic, very pleasant sound where you have no doubt this is a living, breathing band playing music together. While Brunilda ditches perfection for authenticity, their performance is tight and well-rehearsed, obviously put forth by competent musicians that may very well play music for a living.

La Primera Vez contains 10 tracks with plenty of variety – some are notably easy-going, others a bit perkier, and there’s even a ballad thrown in because the guys can do that – and then some! Two of the songs, “Anormal” and “Salir a pasear”, are composed by Juan Zabaleta. Vocalist Mariano Capella sings every song in Spanish, which is only appropriate. If you don’t know the words, you’ll certainly recognize the feel, because Brunilda’s music has enough of that to break the language barrier. We commend the band for creating a polished record full of great tunes that still sound real. We wonder if they’d be content remaining a local sensation, or their appetite for fame will lead them towards worldwide recognition.
