Hello! Tell the world about yourself.

Hello, nice to meet you. 🙂 My name is John Proffitt. I am husband and father of two sons. I was born and raised in Covington, Kentucky. I am still living in Kentucky. I am 44 years old.

How did you grow up to become the musician you are today?

My father gave me a bass guitar when I was at the age of 14. My amp was an old stereo that my father rigged together. I’ve been self-taught on how to play instruments. I’ve played guitar, some drums, learned how to use a drum machine, use software studio programs (ProTracks 2.2), and mess about on a synthesizer. And did most of the recordings and producing myself. I have friends who are musicians as well that at times. We get together and do some music.

Introduce your current musical projects and tell us what makes each one special for you!
I am using a laptop and a computer with software studio program to arrange, mix and produce the songs. I’ve also improvised with whatever I could get my hands on. A stereo, walkman, even a VCR to record audio. Crazy huh? Yea, I say that these songs have some meaning to me. They’re what helped me get better with each new material I do.

You have been playing music for a long while! How do you find the drive and inspiration to keep going all this time?

I’ve been playing music for thirty years. I’m always learning something new! My best work is at night. You can say that I am a night owl. My inspiration comes when I am not expecting anything.

How is your local music scene in your perspective? Do you feel like you belong there?

The scene in Covington is pretty awesome. Just a bridge over the river of Cincinnati, Ohio. And yes, I do feel home here.

What is your all-time favorite record and how did it change you as an artist?
All-time record? Hmm… I have to say from Black Sabbath. And the list goes on after. I mean a lot! All sorts of different genres.

What are your favorite software and hardware tools for music production?
I am using a software called ProTracks 2.2.

What is your songwriting process like?
I say that I am not much of a singer though I have done some. But I am learning.

Out of all the live shows you played, which one was the most memorable, and why?
I have played at Bogart’s (Battle of the Bands), Sudsy’s Malone in Clifton, Ohio, and Southgate House in Kentucky. Was AWESOME!!!

What is your biggest musical goal?

My goal is to get that creativeness out there and get heard! Perhaps something more?

How has being on Drooble helped you as a musician?
And last, being on Drooble just blows my mind! It’s also helping me to take this a little bit more serious yet have fun in the process. Thank you for this opportunity and expanding my mind into more creative thinking and who knows whatever may come?
