Mauro Filigheddu Puts The Soul Back In Rock And Roll on Sardinia UK

Mauro Filigheddu is an Italian man of rock and roll. His record, ‘Sardinia UK’, will take you on a tour of everything that’s rock. From gentle acoustic numbers to hard rockers and everything in between, there’s simply no lack of variety to complain of.

Granted, Mauro’s gentle, soothing voice is more suited to singing ballads and lyrical impressions than it is for macho rock, but regardless, the man handles his music convincingly and with ease. He also incorporates many jazz influences in his guitar playing, which we find overwhelmingly pleasant. Those lush extended chords certainly fall into place and imbue the songs with heightened sophistication.

There’s lots of guitar and lots of voice in those nine songs, composed by a clearly gifted artist who has heaps of music flowing through his musical arteries. Let there be rock!

Hello! Tell the world about yourself. How did you grow up to become the musician you are today?

I started playing the guitar at the age of 12, then I went to a private school to learn music, guitar and electric organ. I played in six different bands as keyboardist, guitarist and vocalist. Then I became composer and that’s what I do now. (Composer, performer and producer).

Introduce your current musical projects and tell us what makes each one special for you!

I do every genre, so I just finished my single ‘You’re in my heart again’ (Alternative Rock), already on Drooble, and I am working at ‘Dicembre’, a classic piece for orchestra. It will be ready in a month.

You have been playing music for a long while! How do you find the drive and inspiration to keep going all this time?

Music is always in me. Many songs of mine were born while driving (e.g.’Winner’). Driving I get more rock inspiration. Anyway I often have inspiration, but I find more problems in finding the time to make them come songs. I do all by myself, so I need really much time.

What draws you to playing the guitar?

I started with the guitar because that was my instrument, but I played more keyboards because keyboardists were more requested. But I love keyboards as much as guitar.

It is your belief that music should be instrumental. What is your opinion on electronic music and sampling?

I also do some electronics and sampling, but I still prefer the instrumental way.

What is your all-time favorite record and how did it change you as an artist?

Records are really many to choose one, but the first I thought of is ‘Atom Heart Mother’ by the Pink Floyd.

What are your favorite software and hardware tools for music production?

I used a Roland Workstation for the rough my two albums but I recorded them in a Professional Studio. Now I am home-producing using Logic-Pro.

Out of all the live shows you played, which one was the most memorable, and why?

I still remember one or two great concerts in some Sardinia cities. At the present time I do not play live. I invented the ‘Public talk for presentations of records’, as they were books. I did one of this shows in Rome in 2017. It’s very interesting because I project some videos of my songs with lyrics and all people can talk about them and ask questions. At the end, it’s possible to sell the Cds. In the concerts nobody talks about music.

What is your biggest musical goal?

My only goal is to listen to my songs in the greatest radios in Italy or everywhere. It does not seem to be easy.

How has being on Drooble helped you as a musician?

I appreciate the idea of Karma points. It’s a kind of reward for us, in this really great music crisis. Also, it is good for meeting people in our field.
