Hey Arpan! How would you describe yourself without mentioning anything about music?

An introvert, with a keen interest in movies. A good observer.

When did you find out music was your thing?

I was from a non-musical background. Music seemed to be always there in fragments from my surroundings. My taste in music was shaped by Hindustani classical music, Rabindrasangeet and Ravi Shankar.Later, I found my favourites among Tommy Emmanuel, Don Ross, Andy Mckee and Steve Vai.

When did it start?

Arpan Sen Interview DroobleInitially started off as an accompanying guitarist in a band. I worked there for some time before creating my own compositions like “Rays of love”, and recording a few renditions of Hindustani Ragas , and also fusing them with modern western sounds. I worked in another band for a brief period. After that I found myself concentrating on sharpening my own skills in music, and creating a few more compositions like ” Let them be free”, ” Tranquility” ,”Fun Times”. I’ve also collaborated with the Irish Flutist , Mr. John Devitt on the song, “The wanderer”. Even taught music theory and advanced guitar techniques at Gurukul Activity Centre all over Kolkata.

How would you describe your own music?

As stated earlier, classical music laid a deep impact in shaping my taste in music. My compositions were based on some Hindustani Ragas. I’ve also fused them with modern western sounds. Some specific genres I usually listen to include experimental, pop, classical and semi-classical. While composing ,the primary thing in my mind is always, how to make my compositions sound good.

Do you believe your music sends a certain message to its listeners? If so, what is it?

My musical compositions are based on experiences I’ve gained from life. Whatever experiences I gain, I try to convey them in terms of musical compositions. I think it mostly depends on the songs and compositions. It might be interpreted in various ways by the listeners, depending upon his/her own perspective.
