EyE-C trips out on hip-hop, rock, and ambient electric storms in debut album E

It’s very difficult to discern what, exactly, is EyE-C doing on their debut record – E. Vocalist That Guy and composer DJ Fathouse’s only explanation is “collectively stimulating the mind”, which sounds appropriately tripped-out for describing their music.

Almost as looney as Death Grips but nearly not as intense, Eye-C mesh ambience, trip hop, rock, funk, spoken word – all ideally combined as to land them an opening spot for a Mike Patton side project. At 19 compositions, E. should be regarded as a double album, or as a single one in need of a serious trim – depends on whether you dig the duo’s more ambient/noisy side, or not.

If you believe that freedom of musical expression can never be “too” free, then you are going to appreciate Eye C’s uniquely experimental mish-mash of styles. Those looking for something more traditional and cleaned up will be better off looking after other artists.

Confused as we are, we are impressed by Eye-C’s genre-defying music and we hope they will keep honing their production and performance skills until their songwriting becomes a tad more convincing.
