Tomas Sandanus will rock your Slovak socks off

Teacher, guitar player, producer – Tomas Sandanus does it all, and that’s only his occupations listed. Sonically, the Zilina, Slovakia-based musician also covers rock, blues, jazz, indie, and pretty much anything else you throw at him thanks to an undiscriminating love for rock guitar and influences from all the right people – Frusciante, Mayer, Clapton, Hendrix, May, Gilmore, and plenty more six-string elder statesmen. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to ask Tomas about his life as a musician in Slovakia, among other things which got us interested. Here come the answers!

What is it about playing bluesy, funky rock guitar that you enjoy the most? Have you tried getting into heavier genres?

I love funk, rock bluesy music also rock fusion. When I try to create a new song always it is some kind of funky song 🙂 I play sometimes heavier styles/songs with my band but it is not natural to me.

What is your favorite piece of guitar equipment, and why?

Everything that is related to electric guitar. Pedalboard, amps..:)

Tell us about the Slovak music scene – what makes it most unique and interesting? What are some artists you like and think we should check out?

Unfortunately, Currently in Slovakia, the radios are playing some kind of Slovak pop music which is similar to world pop music. I think that artists are stealing these “pop” styles because are “popular” in the world and most of the people like these songs.I can recommend Slovak band called “Horkýže SlĂĹľe” they are playing 25 years and have own unique style 🙂

Out of all the live shows you played, which one was the most memorable, and why?

Most of the shows were normal but a few years ago came police on one gig because we played very loud and was after midnight :))
