Rivergin’s Bitter Dry is a melting pot of alternative genres
Putting Rivergin’s music into words is a difficult objective. But let’s just say that the man’s semi-schizophrenic (in a good way) alt. rock sounds like it has been derived from Mike Patton’s primal musical pursuits — think Mr. Bungle, rather than Faith No More.
The instrumentation is as varied as it’s chaotic, incorporating a hearty dose of electronics in addition to guitar, bass, and drums used in ways that aren’t necessarily the first to come to mind.
The music is technically and sonically challenging at times, but there clearly are talent and vivid imagination laying behind it. There are 13 songs in total, some quite short in length and most hovering at around 3 minutes.
Overall, Bitter Dry is a strange record that breaks genre templates with the ease of a bulldozer going through a cabin and certainly benefits from a dose of acquired taste when being listened to. Definitely give this album a chance if you are into the more experimental, out-there side of alt. and indie rock. You might end up with a new gem in your collection!
