Bizarre and Unique Music Instruments – Part I

We can guarantee that you’ve probably never used or should we even say never heard of these absolutely bizarre and unique musical instruments.

Bizarre and unique music instruments can be found in different cultures and counties, but this selection here lists the ones that do not get that much attention.

As a Russian folk instrument, the contrabass balalaika was created during the second part of the 17th century. It does not look like any other instrument as its unique triangular shape makes it one of a kind. This bizarre and unique instrument should usually rest on the floor on its legs while you play on it. It comes in its triangular shape and many various sizes.

American Fotoplayer

Introduced for the first time in music history by the American Fotoplayer Company, the American fotoplayer is a strange and unique form of a piano that was built to offer effects for movies that are not that loud and we could say sort of silent.

Stylophone

Introduce by Brian Jarvis in 1967, the stylophone is an unique music instrument that  is more or less a synthesizer that is stylus-operated.

Pikasso Guitar

The name of the next weird instrument was inspired by Pablo Picasso’s cubist works. It’s actually a harp guitar with four necks 42 stings on it and 2 holes. What an instrument!

Theremin or Aetherphone

The theremin music instrument used to be known under the name of aetherophone. You do not need mto establish a physical contact with this bizarre electronic instrument in order to control it. The creator of the unique instrument, Leon, Theremin made it in such way that one could control it with just the position of his/her hands and control oscillators for frequency with the help of the two metal antennas.

Cimbalom

This instrument became popular in Hungary and it actually is an instrument that is a concert hammered dulcimer. There are metal strings on top of its box that is trapezoidal in shape. Unique in form, shape and size all the way.

Glass Harmonica

The glass harmonica has many names like bowl organ, armonica and hydrocrystalophone. It comprises of several glass bowls in different sizes that are arrange by its size in order to provide a really broad range of music sounds and tones.

Crwth

Crwth

This ancient and weird instrument has strings and is often times called “crowd”. It was played in Wales during the 11th century and onwards.

Ondes Martenot

The Ondes Martenot is also known as “Martenot Waves” It is an electronic instrument invented by Maurice Martenot in 1928. Its most prominent feature is the eerie wavering notes that come out of it.

Jew’s Harp

The lamellophone called Jew’s Harp is an unique piece of music instrument that is a part of the idophones that you pluck to produce a sound and is made out of a metal that has flexible features and a bamboo tongue attached to its frame.

  1. We had this super weird Acoustic Guitar come in the shop the other day, It was a six string guitar but the D and G string we doubled as a 12 string. Haven’t been able to find any others like it?
