The wild and punchy electronics of “Pedal-powered Elephant” by Pedro Agno

We have already spoken about how challenging and interesting is to spend a day on Drooble exploring the music created within our community. Rarely you’ll find releases that sound alike but Pedro Agno’s “Pedal-powered Elephant” brings the game to a whole new level. “Pedal-powered Elephant” by this UK-based experimental artist definitely is among the top 3 most obscure releases we’ve ever come across. According to the record credits on Bandcamp, cellartapes is a collective outlet for wild audio experiments. Not without a hint of Luigi Russolo’s very own categorization of noises, the band (we’ll call it a band for convenience, even though the term is too confining for the wild experimentation found here) is not following the typical drums, guitars and bass format, but it’s all about clanking, whirring and rattling instead.

And the music, oh boy the music, it’s perfect. Experimental to the bone, it’s hectic but never chaotic, weird but listenable and broken but very rhythmic, even hypnotic. It’s also super well produced with a warm, almost analog vibe. It’s arranged and then mixed in a super intelligent manner that allows you to grasp each and every tiny sonic detail which is making its way through the music to your brain. Some of our highlights are the raw hip-hop inspired “Tubeshop”, the deep-beat driven “Destroy Before Reading”, the deconstructed funk found in “From Creaks” and the super atmospheric and dubby banger “Stasis / Intro”.

If you like your electronic music broken, weird and still hard-hitting “Pedal-powered Elephant” is your new favorite magic bag of dope jams. Go for it!
