Spacey electronics meet djent in the music of Nihilaeth

Nihilaeth is a solo project by French guitarist and composer Jordan Burnet. He might be based in Bordeaux, France but his music will shoot your right into the darkest corners of space through intelligent song-writing and symbiotic mixing of two very polar genres.

“The Chained Star Of The Wormhole” is an epic release, spanning over 12 tracks. The music is an encounter between djent-influenced guitar work that is in a constant dialog with the contrasting, very melodic, often ambient-sounding, layers of electronic instrumentation. “The Chained Star Of The Wormhole” is a self-recorded and self-produced album but this DIY approach didn’t harm the overall impression of the music. Yes, maybe the drums could’ve been more present and explosive and the guitars a bit more untamed but that’s all a matter of personal perception. What matters the most is that the music of Nihilaeth really has the potential to take you to places you’ve never been before.

The superb, challenging and intriguing (especially when it comes down to rhythm and time signatures) guitar work is the absolute backbone of the record. It unites all elements, especially when backed by minimalist but adequate drum programming. In this cozy sonic nest, you’ll find a plethora of synths, soundscapes, keys, harps that turn the music into a real otherworldly experience without losing the humane. Definitely recommended, especially for those who like their djent records trippy and spacey as hell.
