Richmond Amankwah Will Put A Smile On Your Face

Finally! Some good old reggae on Drooble! Ghana-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Richmond Amankwah embodies everything reggae tries to teach and it’s no coincidence he chose this particular music style to reach the hearts of people. And that’s exactly what he’s doing – quite successfully, we might add. Here’s a glimpse into his work and his thoughts:
How and when was your relationship with music born?
I started my singing when I was at the age of 4 to 5years.I sung School Nursery songs to people around me both young and old and they encouraged me that if i continue I will be a good singer one day.
After secondary school I bought my acoustic guitar and attended music school(Gloryland School of Music,Obuasi,Ghana) There I had an intensive guitar lessons and I also studied effective vocal work and techniques.
After completion of the music school I played many local bands and also for churches.
What is music to you? What does it give you?
Music is like my daily meal. It gives me inspiration.What is your music dream?
To get the message in my music across the world.
If you could change the world – what would you start with?
If I could change the would I would start with uplifting and love songs without profane.
Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?
Reggae Night,by Jimmy Cliff

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?
Gregory Isaacs and Peter Tosh

What inspires you to make music?
To uplift the downhearted, broken-heart and enhance social gathering and unity with love songs.

What is the message you want to send with your music?
Those who are down for so long have to rise up NOW! They should forget about the worries on their minds when they listen to my music.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?
Very happy with excitement.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?
Marketing their music is very difficult. The Radio and TV Stations should give them playtime because we are entertaining the communities.

What do you think of Drooble?
I am hopeful Drooble can help me promote and sell my album to to enable me come out with anther.

What frustrates you most as a musician?
Many companies promise to help promote and sell my music, they end up collecting money upon money without fulfilling their promise.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?
Yes, I do support our local scene music through buying their CDs.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get his music heard by a larger audience?
Musician nowadays must spend time on rehearsals to allow their songs to mature, and also learn how to play some musical instruments and also have quality self branding.

Describe your creative process.
I begin with writing a story, it can be my own life experience,news breaks, a wise sayings and others. I build a message around any of the already mentioned scenarios.
I put it in a song form with my acoustic guitar making sure the chords and the scales are right.
I allow some time for my mind to work on the song naturally thereby making new connections and removing unnecessary ideas and also grabbing new ideas.
If an idea hit my mind during this stage of the creative process I do my best to note it down or record with my cellphone and add it to the creative process.
From this stage I will make a friend who is creative evaluate the song if it good. After a good recommendation I implement it by recording the song. In the recording studio, ideas are added up to the song to make it more polished before it comes out.

Where do you look for inspiration?
First it is from God and rest are also some great musicians who have already gone passed where I am and what I am about to do and also doing the same genre. Gregory Isaacs, Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff to be precise inspire me most.
Why is it important to make others happy?
It is important to make other people happy because we are living in a world which is full of troubles and many undesirable situations. Good music with good message brings back life those who have have completely lost hope. Music refreshes the mind and reduces stress completely. When good moves people to the dance floor, they receive a form of body exercise, it is another therapy for depression, really good for our health. Research has shown that older people feel younger when they dance to the tune of music.
It brings back to  people the good old memory from their youthful days too.
