Metalcore meets contemporary electronics in When The Curtain Falls by Born For Vengeance

Born For Vengeance is an upcoming Bulgarian band whose music is a surprisingly well-put together fusion of modern metalcore with intelligently programmed electronics. Their debut EP ‘When The Curtain Falls’, available on a limited run CDs and of course all over the digital streaming platforms, fits perfectly in the boundaries of the genre but thankfully goes a bit beyond.

Like the modern classics in metalcore, the band is mixing heavier parts with melodic passages. Their music is certainly not rediscovering the wheel but is well written, with a ton of catchy vocal melodies, epic riffs, and teenage angst-driven breakdowns. Lyrics here and there feel slightly immature but we’ve definitely heard worse. For a DIY effort, the production is pretty much where it should be. Born For Vengeance are going for a polished but not sterile sound, with all instruments and additional programming well balanced, all elements of the music are in a constant dialogue instead of fighting to dominate over each other. Especially thanks to the electronics there are moments on the record where you feel like you’re listening to an EBM-influenced metal industrial record and not a metalcore banger. That’s definitely a breath of fresh air in this already pretty exhausted and overexploited modern metal sub-genre.

Of course, no matter how good this record sounds, the biggest challenge for Born For Vengeance will be to be able to represent the tight and well-crafted sound of the record live. According to the social media presence of the band, they are playing as much as the small Bulgarian metal scene allows them, so, we’re definitely interested in experiencing ‘When The Curtain Falls’ from the mosh pit.
