Corey Francis is based in Melbourne and is currently creating music under the name Broken Mirror. A part of the latest generation of electronic musicians he’s turning the struggles and pains of daily life into a music that is not aimed at making him the next huge thing in the Australian electronic scene but to simply making music to spark creativity in others. Meet Corey Francis in the interview below.

Hello! Tell the world about yourself. How did you become a musician?
My names Corey Francis and I have been around music my whole life. I mostly use music to channel my emotions out and to escape from the pain that is everyday life.

Introduce your current musical projects and tell us what makes each one special for you!
My current musical project is named Broken Mirror. It is very special to me because usually, it makes me feel happy.

How do you find the drive and inspiration to keep making music?
I get burnt out very easily and I find that just taking a break for a few weeks really helps. I subconsciously gather inspiration from everyday life.

Where are you based and how is your local music scene? Do you feel like you belong there?
I live in Melbourne, and the local music scene seems to fit me well as the majority of it is electronic music.

What is your all-time favorite record and how did it change you as an artist?
My all-time favorite record is probably ‘Vessel’ by Twenty One Pilots. It inspired me to make music in the first place. It also introduced me to the more experimental side of music. This album is full of time, key and tempo changes.

What are your favorite software and hardware tools for music production?
My favorite software is definitely FL Studio because it perfectly fits my workflow. Right now my favorite hardware is the Akai MPK249 keyboard because it feels very nice to play and the drum pads are very high quality.

What is your songwriting process like?
It usually starts with me creating a baseline, building chords, making a few melodies and then making a drum beat to it. Then the creativity starts flowing and the rest of the track comes easily, without me even needing to think about it.

Do you play gigs and if yes which one was the most memorable, and why?
I haven’t played any live shows due to school and anxiety.

What is your biggest musical goal?
That will be to inspire other people to create because when people put their minds to something, meaning is poured into whatever it is they’re creating. This is what makes whatever they’re creating incredible.

How has being on Drooble helped you as a musician?
Drooble has helped me get my name out there. Right now I have over 900 plays on Drooble, which is already more than 5 times more plays then I have on all other streaming services combined.
