Seraphyne‘s story must be familiar to many of you. She always wanted to make music, so she bought a laptop and a copy of Logic Pro X, then got to it – learning along the way and tweaking things until it all started coming together. When not making music, she’s actively learning and dreaming of playing her first live show when the right time comes. Seraphyne makes music with the noble, humble goal of making one feel something good and positive. Here comes this interview with a wonderful and musical person…

Hello! Tell the world about yourself. How did you grow up to become the musician you are today?

Hello! My name is Sarah. My artist name is Seraphyne, my mom used to call me that when I was a little human. I’m 25 years old and from the West coast of Canada. I’ve been learning to make music for a few years now and I love it. It’s been a journey for sure but an amazing one.

Growing up, music has always been a huge part of my life. I couldn’t go a day without listening to something whether it was Guns N’ Roses, The Runaways or even Eminem. Everything. I’ve never really been that good at talking about my emotions, music has always been the outlet for me.

I always knew I wanted to make music, but haven’t done so until recently. It’s been a few years now since I bought my laptop and started practicing. I’ve been learning lots and I’m so excited to keep it up.

Introduce your current musical projects and tell us what makes each one special for you!

I’ve been working away making some new songs here and there lately, nothing really huge. I have nine songs now that I’m really proud of. I’ve finally started distributing a few of them to places like Spotify and Deezer. Just to put the feelers out for now though. I’m also currently enrolled in a course online with Point Blank Music School which starts in the next few weeks. I’m stoked to see or listen rather to what my sounds are like after we’re done in a year from now. After this opportunity, I’m sure I’ll have way more things on the go for my music.

You have been playing music for a long while! How do you find the drive and inspiration to keep going all this time?

For a long while, I didn’t really push and promote my music because I was just learning. Now that I’ve been showing people, I’ve been getting some nice feedback and it’s a bit addicting. I feel inspired just by listening to my favourite songs and radio stations. Although I’ve been getting some good comments and support, I think just making a cool beat in its own is inspiration enough. I love it!

How is your local music scene in your perspective? Do you feel like you belong there?

My local music scene is a very comfortable place. Being in a small town in BC, there are lots of metal around town, folk, acoustic and other random awesome genres. I try to go to shows when I’m not working and when I do they’re always so much fun. Good people and great music, in my opinion. I definitely feel like I belong there, but being an electronic artist, it may be different if it ever came to playing at those shows!

What is your all-time favorite record and how did it change you as an artist?

That’s a hard one! I don’t really think I have a favourite record. I definitely have favourite artists who have inspired me.
Ciara was the biggest inspiration for me. She makes great music and was an amazing dancer. I’ve looked up to her since I was very small.
Now I listen to a lot of electronic music and have had that make a huge impact on the kind of tracks I’ve been making lately.

What are your favorite software and hardware tools for music production?

I currently use Logic Pro X and I love it. When I got my laptop, I tried GarageBand before I bought Logic, it was super easy to use and not hard on the eyes. I also have a 49-key keyboard and that’s it. I’ve tried an MPC Live and it was awesome! I might purchase one in the future, but we’ll see. I’m also on the list to get Komplete 11 very soon, so I’m interested to see the different synths and tools I’ll get in that package!

What is your songwriting process like?

When I’m feeling inspired, I’ll lay down a melody and work from there. I’ll usually spend my days off in my little studio, plucking away at new little songs or ideas until they are finished.

Out of all the live shows you played, which one was the most memorable, and why?

I’ve never played a live show before. I really want to, it’s a big goal of mine. I know a few local DJ’s around town and I figured when the time was right, I’d ask around and see if I can get in somewhere.

What is your biggest musical goal?

I have two goals actually, my first goal is to be able to play at least one show. That would be immensely cool. My other goal is to just reach one person with my music and make them feel inspired, happy, or just good. I think that, without a doubt, is the coolest thing someone who makes music can do. It’s powerful.

How has being on Drooble helped you as a musician?

Drooble has been short and sweet. I’ve connected with lots of other people and I feel like it’s a very cool little community. In my small time being here, I’ve had a lot of plays and a lot of truthful feedback on my music. It really makes me feel awesome. I’m happy to say that I’m a part of it.
