Grimaze Tales

Grimaze band

Grimaze band consists of vocalist Pavel Krumov, guitarist Melina Krumova, bassist Anton Dimitrov and drummer Nedy Miladinov. The band was formed in January 2013. At first Grimaze was playing covers of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Pantera, but soon in their original music they move on to a heavier sound and playing.

Grimaze’s sound is not easily classified as it is a mixture of several different styles. Genres that have been associated with Grimaze are: technical death metal, groove metal, progressive metal and alternative metal.

1. Tell us what Grimaze is.

We are a band of four friends, united by our love for music. We believe that we can change the world for good through sound. Every day we give most of our energy into it; trying to become the best we can be and share it with others. We also love our Planet, so we strive to maintain a sustainable lifestyle and spread this culture around.

2. What is playing music to you?

Melina: When I play music I feel like a musical instrument myself. The natural flow of vibrations takes me deep inside and helps me integrate various blockages so that harmony and peace can prevail in my whole being.

Anton: To me playing music is like a summer holiday for the soul. I lose myself in the process and if there is any negativity – it’s all being dissolved.

3. What is your music about?

Melina: Our Music is about inner journeys and introspection. We believe that self-knowledge and purification could set beings free, so with our songs we go far below the surfaces and explore the unknown aspects of ourselves. With our music we encourage people to be self-aware and free from fears; to be true, no matter what others think and to constantly seek purification and self-perfection.

Anton: Also if we look at it from another point of view – we are making the music that we want to listen to.

4. How do you usually make songs?

Anton: We start with the backbone of the song because it literally flows through us. It’s the main parts of a piece structured in a given order.

Melina:  This comes naturally when we jam together or one of us hears the song from inside the mind. When a song flows like that it comes with a meaning; a message that eventually becomes the lyrics. Once we have the backbone, we move on to details which is my favourite part of a song creation. We can easily spend hours in the rehearsal room, having lots of fun, going over the different variations of a single detail.

5. What according to you makes an awesome live show?

Anton: The moment when band and audience become one. When the energy of the experience is so big that everybody is lost within its field. Pure joy.

Melina: In order to get to that moment we are building up as much energy as possible before a live show. When we get on stage we are literally shedding most of our life force and if the audience responds in the same way it really clicks. We all become one.

6. What frustrates you on the music path?

Anton: People. Because they don’t have the culture to support music. Even musicians don’t support each other enough.

Melina: The lack of culture is really frustrating. It’s ridiculous that the whole world is listening to music and still most musicians need to have side jobs in order to support themselves.

7. What do you think of the music industry and the musicians’ reality, in general, these days?

Melina: I think the music industry nowadays is like cancer for music. The industry encourages musicians to create products for selling, rather than just be themselves and give their genuine musical expression to the world. But when music becomes a product it is no longer music.

Anton: It’s really sad that so many musicians sell themselves and give up their uniqueness. Of course, sometimes they have no other choice; especially if they have families to support, etc. Reality is that true music is slowly dying and if we want to stop this the industry must be reformed.

8. What do you think of Drooble?

Anton: I think Drooble will kill the cancer cells that the music industry spreads around :))

Melina: Being part of Drooble is a dream for me. I believe Drooble is the answer to many of the problems that music faces nowadays. Musicians need a place that unites them and gives them the tools for growth and easy collaboration. Drooble is this place.

9. What is new around you these days?

Anton: We just got back from our Bulgarian Tour and next week we are leaving for our first European Tour with gigs in Munich, Vienna, Budapest, Sarajevo, Nis, Bucharest.

Melina: We also just released an EP which is a brief preview of our full-length album that we plan to release at the end of the year. In general, we are very eager to create as much music as we can and share it with the world :))

10. If you can choose a few artists that you would love to perform with – who would they be?

Melina: Pantera, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix.

Anton: Gojira, Gorod, Decapitated, Meshuggah, Obscura, Igorrr, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Brutal Truth, Blotted Science, Abhorrent, Dilinger Escape Plan.

11. Share some wisdom for bands who are just starting

Anton:

– Play only for the music.

Melina:

– Think giving music, not taking from music.
– Master your instruments and don’t rely on technology.
– The content is much more important than the package when it comes to music.
– Music influences people. If you plan on making music never forget that.
– Be true in your expression and don’t care what others think.
