Flower In The Rain by Raf Jammaers

Song: Flower In The Rain by Raf Jammaers; Genre: Alternative Rock; Duration: 4:49

What’s the story and working process behind the song?

Raf: The song was written while on a road trip with my sister (she’s also the singer on this song) through Norway in the summer 2016…while driving for hours in total solitude through the fantastic nature, and overthinking life , relationships, relations between people, and how hard it is to say the right words at the right time, in a way that the person who you’re saying them to, exactly understands what you’re saying…and how difficult it is for some people to just say sorry….as the lyrics aren’t happy, we decided on a 3/4 waltz rhythm to match the darker vibe…the song was completed over the 5 days in Norway…Originally, it was an acoustic song, just 2 guitars, and a voice, but back home, we immediately started working to put the drum and bass part together, we worked really hard till we had it was we wanted it (for us, the exact placement of the kickdrum was the key to make the song roll ), then we did the guitar parts (7 different parts), and added the mellotron in the bridge part on the end…did the vocals …when we did the final mix, we still felt like something was missing, at that point we added the percussion.

What Drooble Team thinks about “Flower In The Rain”?

The voice fits perfectly with the instrumental and you get hooked right away, before the intro is over.

The first recommendation we would give is to add at least one more layer of the vocal track and add some effects, so it can echo more. We imagine it in a more eerie and cosmic way. Now it is really beautiful, but we would experiment even a little bit more, if we were in Raf place :)) The instruments in the mix are well balanced, so they add to one another very smoothly. Maybe the drums are a little too quiet, but perhaps Raf is looking for that. Love the melodies and the whole composition.

The last recommendation that comes up in our mind is for the outro: If Raf makes the last four notes slower and slower, it will add a little crispiness.
