Filhos do Desespero – rock music with a cause

The self-titled Filhos do Desespero album is among the very few rock albums that were created and released not to make somebody a music superstar but to help out those among us that are in need. This record and its story is one of the kindest creative acts we’ve come across on Drooble. It was funded by a small crowd-funding campaign which allowed C. N. Gil, the mastermind behind the project, to handle all production costs for the CDs. On the album-accompanying website, Filhos do Desespero inform us that all profits from the sales of the record will be donated for charity to UNICEF. We guess now it’s the time to give you some reasons to this beautiful cause.

Filhos do Desespero is a rock project, which is sometimes slightly lingering between the alternative and more metallic spectre of the genre. The album was written by C. N. Gil with Sérgio Faria having co-written ‘Este Papel’ and Luís Jorge who’s the co-composer of “revolução”. With no mention of other contributing musicians we guess it’s a solo project, the result of an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist and composer. However, Filhos de Desespero not only sounds as convincing as a full-blown band music-wise but features a warm, compact and a bit introvert production. It perfectly allows the tunes to do their job, meaning to take you on a mostly melancholic but very enjoyable and pleasant trip in the world of Portuguese rock music. Thanks Filhos do Desespero for reminding us that rock music not only needs talent and punch but an important cause as well.
