2thoughts Explores The Depths Of Humanity on “What It’s All About?

UK three-piece 2thoughts is as ambitious as a singer-songwriter outfit can get in an age where the means for recording, producing, and promoting are almost entirely within musicians’ hands. Following their debut record 8 Clicks, which we noted for its deep atmosphere and immaculate production, the trio has come up with a 6-song EP whose title asks the existential question of “What’s It All About?”

While this work of art does not provide a definite answer, it does give you plenty of musical food for thought with highly philosophical lyrics over an interesting musical backdrop that’s objectively sparse, yet arranged to sound grandiose. 2thoughts’s vocal work is strongly emotional, wailing and soaring above the instrumentals as it takes life on its own.

As an overall impression, the EP is progressive and highly conceptual, demanding a focused and discerning listen to truly grasp its content. However, we felt the production on it has taken a step back compared to its predecessor (8 Clicks)’s incredible polish.

While WIAA doesn’t sound nearly as ear balmy, the studio work is never bad enough to get in the way of the music it’s just that 2thoughts and their fans deserve the best sound possible so that their work gets to shine as bright as it can.
